Smartphone Democracy – Delivering The First Global Democracy

Ian Linnegan

I am very proud to be a British subject.

From humble beginnings in the Gorbals of Glasgow, and working through the United Kingdom’s amazing education system, established following at the end of the second World War, I gained sufficient confidence to create this web site and blog.

As a country, our many leadership successes include:

1. Leading the Industrial Revolution – inventing the steam engine and later the Internet
2. Creating the first truly global empire, introducing democracy and a common global language
3. We were the first developed nation to make slavery illegal, and the first to cease the use of coal in the production of electricity
4. The Queen’s lifelong focus to further develop the Commonwealth of Nations, providing ample
evidence our country overall, does not tolerate race or any other type of social intolerance.

Currently, the UK’s global leadership role looks prime for a reset. The recent election results in the USA shows how easily democratic values can get corrupted. The slogan “Make America Great Again” gives a clear indication of what might soon follow. The future of Nato, Ukraine and female rights are clearly at stake and, potentially more devastating, declining world order.

The UK needs to regain a centre stage position, not through the skills of any one individual, but the collective skill and will of every UK resident, believing they can be part of the solution. Bold and courageous leadership is required. Our democratic principles are also in question (it’s not just the USA), we need to develop a new style of governance, one that cannot be further corrupted by powerful individuals and the ongoing threat of multinational gurus, censorship and dictatorships.

Our traditional first ‘past the post’ style of democracy is now just about over. Recent results in UK and USA shows that blind acceptance of 50-50 type results can quickly lead to anarchy and general discontentment, sometimes in nearly half the population. Effective media control, if you have it, can quickly turn intolerance into violent disobedience.

Thankfully, with technology, greater transparency and a switch a to more effective democratic governance process, we can provide a solution that the voting public will be much happier to tolerate and endorse. For the moment, let’s call this new governance style ‘Smartphone Democracy’. Honest grassroots politics is the only realistic way to rejuvenate true democratic values. Mature political parties and global commerce combined, seek only to maintain status quo.

1. I am unconvinced that the ongoing Labour or Conservative party’s continuing majorities will enable any real significant change in the UK to happen – despite continued promises.

2. One consequence of this is that there will be no chance of a serious debate in Parliament on the potential of introducing Smartphone Democracy to help guide a return to a fairer democratic process in the UK and, most important of all, restoring the trust of the British public.

Only the collective application of new technology, including the use of AI and Smartphone Democracy, will we start to see a significant reduction of social unrest, resulting in a real chance of Planet Earth’s total annihilation.

I welcome any opportunity to work with any political party or independent organisation to do what ever I can to help reduce this risk.

This first step is within your control.

Thank You.
